A Squamish man who told police he was driving at almost twice the speed limit because he had to go to the bathroom found he’d flushed away $483 on a speeding ticket in West Vancouver this week.
Police officers with the Lower Mainland RCMP’s Integrated Road Safety Unit clocked the driver in his twenties flying past the Cypress Bowl exit on Highway 1 at 175 kilometres an hour Monday morning – approximately twice the posted speed limit of 90 km/h.
When police pulled him over, the driver tried to explain his need for speed was because “he had to use the bathroom,” said Cpl. Mike Halskov, spokesman for BC RCMP Traffic Services. Officers, however, deemed that a crappy excuse as the driver had just floored it past a gas station where washrooms were available.
The driver was handed a ticket for excessive speeding and had his ride impounded for seven days.
