Arguably Vancouver's most iconic sign, 'Dude Chilling Park,' is missing again, but an adequate replacement has appeared.
Strung up between the two signposts where the usual sign sits is a knit (or crocheted, we're not experts in the yarn-ier arts) sign. While it's a bit spider-webby, the new sign does indeed say 'Dude Chilling Park' (though it can be difficult to see when viewed against a snowy background).
The knit sign matches the signs for Vancouver parks quite closely, with a similar shade of green, white outline and Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation crest.
The original 'Dude Chilling Park' sign was a piece of unsanctioned art erected at Guelph Park where a piece of sanctioned public art sits, chilling. Eventually, the sign was sanctioned.
And stolen. Multiple times.
Vancouver Is Awesome has reached out to the Vancouver parks board to find out whether the missing sign has been stolen or if it's missing for a different reason. They said they'll get back to us, and we'll update this story when they do.
