An early season snow advisory has been issued for parts of British Columbia this week, including the Sea to Sky Highway which serves as a connector of Squamish and Whistler.

Environment Canada released the statement Thursday morning – attributing early predictions of snow to a mix of Arctic air and below seasonal temperatures.

“A low-pressure system will pass just off Vancouver Island Friday morning and move onto the Washington coast Friday evening,” detailed the weather agency.

“Meanwhile, modified Arctic air will advance southward through the B.C. interior," it said, with up to 15 centimetres of snowfall expected in the region.

Other areas forecasted for the early arrival of snow include Coquihalla Highway, Highway 3 (Hope to Princeton via Allison Pass), and the town of Whistler.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly, resulting in hazardous driving conditions, Environment Canada warned.

The weather system is expected to move out of the province Saturday.
