As the provincial campaign continues to ramp up ahead of the Oct. 19 election in B.C., a new political sign has appeared outside a high-profile Vancouver property.
The sign, which calls Premier David Eby and the BC NDP communists, is located on the property of Lululemon founder and local billionaire Chip Wilson; the house is the most expensive residence in B.C. (and maybe Canada).
It reads: "Eby will tell you the Conservatives are 'Far Right' but neglects saying that the NDP is 'Communist.'"
Wilson's house lies in Eby's Vancouver-Point Grey electoral district, where Eby is running against Conservative Paul Ratchford and Green candidate Devyani Singh.
The BC NDP, which has been in power since 2017, is generally considered a social democratic political party.
Eby has criticized Conservative leader John Rustad and his candidates for what Eby called anti-science and extremist views.
While Wilson has never run for political office before, he has shared his views and participated in local campaigns in different ways. Over the years, he's praised Ayn Rand, the author and philosopher who influenced conservative and libertarian people like Elon Musk, Justice Clarence Thomas, and Vince Vaughn.
Locally he's been connected to B.C. and Vancouver politicians. He was at Mayor Ken Sim's election night party and helped found and sponsor the Pacific Prosperity Foundation, which shared political messages and funded things like Aaron Gunn's Vancouver is Dying documentary.
He's also been involved in B.C.'s real estate market, in part via Low Tide Properties and the Wilson 5 Foundation, which works on land conservancy.
