A potential COVID-19 exposure has been reported at Sir Sanford Fleming Elementary School.

Another elementary school in Vancouver is reporting a potential exposure event.

Between Oct. 27 and 29 someone at Sir Sandford Fleming Elementary School at 6363 Lanark St. may have caused an exposure event, according to Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). VCH issues such alerts when they believe there is "an increased risk of ongoing transmission of COVID-19 to groups they were part of." That includes classes.

VCH doesn't share whether the individual was a student or staff member.

This is the fifth such alert since the beginning of the 2021-22 school year.

More incidents of COVID-19 may have been detected in school communities, but an alert isn't issued if it's determined there was no increased risk of that infection spreading.

"If you have not been directly contacted by Public Health, please keep your student in class," states VCH online. "Children and youth continue to be at low risk for serious outcomes from COVID-19, but research has shown missing school impacts mental health, social connection and learning outcomes."
