'Vote with your dollar': George Stroumboulopoulos shouts out Vancouver businesses

From Raven's Veil to Mintage to Iron Dog, these are the shops the Canadian broadcaster highlights

Broadcaster George Stroumboulopoulos is one of the Canadian icons encouraging people to shop local in light of the current political circumstances, and he's giving a shout-out to some specific Vancouver businesses.

In a post on Instagram, he speaks about the nature of economic stability, small independent businesses, and supporting locals.

"Vote with your dollar; it makes a big difference," he says in the video he shot in Vancouver. "In fact, voting with a dollar is not just sentimental; it's subversive."

To that end, he shouts out more than a dozen Vancouver businesses, each a small, independent enterprise.

"Vancouver is my second Canadian home (I don’t actually own there ‘cause who can afford it)," he writes in the post.

The local places he highlights include a variety of shops like Rise Up Marketplace, Vegan Supply, Raven's Veil, and Rufus Guitar Shop. Bookstores Iron Dog Books and Spartacus Books also got a nod from the former MuchMusic VJ.

There were clothing businesses, too: Brunett the Label and Mintage.

On the artsy side of things, Stroumboulopoulos spotlighted the Terminal City Glass Co-op, a glass studio in East Vancouver, and Cedar Root Gallery.

On the food side of things, he pointed out Le Marché St. George and Cafe Kitsune. He also highlights Save on Meats, which has closed.
