OAG, a global travel data provider, has released the top global gateway airports in North America and Vancouver made the top ten.
The list was included in OAG's report entitled "North America's Airport Leaders 2019." Airports were categorized and evaluated by size: Major, Large, Medium and Small.
Toronto Pearson International Airport placed first in North America, with service to 163 global destinations in the past year. New York John F. Kenney came second, with Miami in third.
Of Toronto's 163 routes, 35 percent fly to the US.
Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau was another Canadian airport in the top ten, placing fourth; Vancouver came in ninth.
Canadian airports also dominated in turnaround time, with three airports – Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver – landing in the Major category's top five and improving OTP by nearly 8%, 6% and 5% respectively.
Florida dominates the list of fastest growing airports, which is measured based on departing seat capacity growth. The top three Major airports – Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL) - all recorded growth of over 6.7%.
