We're proud to announce that Guy Felicella has joined Vancouver Is Awesome as a regular columnist, writing about the overdose crisis in our city and beyond.
Guy currently works as an inspirational speaker and a Peer Clinical Advisor at the BC Centre on Substance Use. He comes to it from a place of experience, as he fell into addiction at an early age and spent 30 years in and out of treatment, and jail. 20 of those years were spent in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.
A fierce advocate for harm reduction and a safer supply, today is the 8th anniversary of his last overdose.
We look forward to Guy enlightening our readers with his insights, knowledge, and ideas on how society can work to end the overdose epidemic while continuing to reduce the harms that affect those caught in its grip.
On this day eight years ago I almost died; my last overdose. That moment changed my life and the nurse who saved it. Harm reduction gave me the ability to survive so I could relearn & rebuild. Harm reduction made the impossible possible, like my recovery & this beautiful family! pic.twitter.com/QF9kHYdJdY
