If you stepped outside of your abode in the city this morning, you likely got a bit wet.
Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for the Metro Vancouver region on Sunday (March 13) and the persistent precipitation has continued through into Monday morning.
But how much of the wet stuff will fall in the city at the start of the working week?
In a rainfall warning updated Monday morning, the national weather forecaster states that locals should prepare for rainfall amounts of 50 to 80 mm through the night.
As the storm moves across the region, the heavy rain is expected to continue through Monday night but then ease on Tuesday morning. While the heavy rainfall will affect all of Metro Vancouver, it is expected to be the heaviest near the mountains.
Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
Metro Vancouver Weather Forecast
Meteorologist Derek Lee told Vancouver Is Awesome in a previous phone interview that Environment Canada is forecasting a La Niña pattern to continue into March, April, and May, which generally means "cooler temperatures for the province."
The cold weather pattern generally means there will be less precipitation which will make for an overall drier spring. "There will be days where you can get a Pacific system as we would in general spring to bring us more moisture," he noted.
