With more than 140 people displaced by the fire at Winters Hotel in Gastown immediate donations are being sought.
Residents of two SROs will need to find new permanent homes after the devastating fire destroyed the Winters Hotel. The neighbouring Gastown Hotel can't be occupied right now, either, due to smoke and water damage, and due to the fact it is within the collapse area of the Winters Hotel, should it fall on its own.
Atira Women's Resource Society, which runs the Winters Hotel, has set up an emergency donation centre at Bette's Boutique, a shop it operates at 305 Main St., not far from the destroyed building. It's open until 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
On Twitter they listed items they need immediately:
"We are accepting the following donations from the tenants affected by the fire at Winters Hotel in #DTES:
- Essential Toiletries
- Shampoo/Conditioner
- Blankets, Bedding & Towels
- Clothing/Shoes (Men/Women)
- Non-Perishable Food
- Pet Food/Supplies
A Delta courier business has offered to help get items to Bette's Boutique.
"If anyone has donations that need to be picked up to help victims of the #Gastown fire, please DM us or email our team at [email protected]," says Ape Ship on twitter.
