Metro Vancouver transit riders expressed frustration after Compass Vending Machines (CVMs) at three major SkyTrain lines stopped working this morning.
TransLink addressed the issue on Twitter just before 6 a.m. on Aug. 6 explaining CVMs at Canada Line, Expo Line and Millennium Line SkyTrain stations were down due to technical issues and were accepting cash only.
“While the CVMs are not accepting cards at this time, you should still be able to tap your credit card on the faregates to be able to get through,” TransLink said in response to one of the frustrated transit users trying to get to work.
When Vancouver Is Awesome reached out to TransLink to find out more about what happened and what was being done to prevent a similar issue from happening in the future and a spokesperson said simply it was no longer a problem.
“There was a technical issue this morning with our compass vending machines, however, this has now been resolved and all machines are now working across the system,” they said.
TransLink tweeted the issue had been resolved more than an hour and a half after the initial CVM announcement.
The idea of needing to use cash during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic incensed some transit riders who voiced their frustrations online.
“A lot of people like me went cashless last year when everyone didn’t want to handle cash! So I have no cash! Guess I get to go home!” one Twitter user wrote.
