‘I need some change or I’ll kill you’: VPD investigate after driver injured in unprovoked assault (VIDEO)

Anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to call 604-717-4021.

Police are looking to identify a man who injured a driver in downtown Vancouver earlier this month in an unprovoked attack.

The frightening incident occurred around 1 p.m. on August 6, as a 25-year-old man was driving on West Georgia Street, near the Vancouver Art Gallery according to a recent VPD release. A panhandler approached the front of his car, blocked his path forward, and started behaving erratically while asking for money.

In the driver’s dashcam footage which was later provided to police, the suspect can clearly be heard saying “I will kill you if you don’t give me change,” and “open your window, I’ll shoot you right now.”

The suspect was also holding a plastic bottle which he allegedly hurled through the vehicle’s open window when it eventually drove past, hitting the driver in the head.

“We are extremely concerned by the random nature of this assault, which occurred in the middle of the day on a busy downtown street,” says Sergeant Steve Addison, VPD. “We want people to be aware of this incident, and to contact us if they can identify the suspect.”

The suspect is a white man, five foot eight, and slim. He was wearing a teal-coloured hoodie, loose-fitting jeans, and had unkempt hair.

Anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to call 604-717-4021.
