Citing a growing number of tourists expected in Vancouver over the next decade, a new hotel is being proposed for a parking lot on Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver.
The project, simply called 848 Seymour Street Hotel (the proposed address), is at the rezoning stage. The application shows a 393 room, 317 ft. (97 m) hotel tower located essentially across Seymour from the Orpheum Theatre's backside, and the Capitol Residences residential tower (126 m). It's also next to the Symphony Place towers on Smithe Street.
The tower would essentially be a single-purpose building, with two separate hotel spaces; one would be for be short-term stays(called Hotel 1 in the applcation) and the second would for long-term guests (called Hotel 2). Hotel 1 would be the lower flowers, while Hotel 2 would be the top 12 floors.
"The Hotel 2 entry at grade provides a jump lobby that takes guests up to the rooftop level where check-in and the hotel lounge will be located," states the application.
At street level space for a new bar is also designated. While the development would see the loss of a surface parking lot 59 stalls of underground parking are included in the design with 33 bike parking spaces.
The proponents for the project state there's a need for new hotel rooms in the city as tourism and business travel grows in Vancouver.
"At a time when the city is in the midst of a hotel crisis, 848 Seymour will help a tourist industry that suffers from a substantial lack of supply and variety," they say in the application.
