Delta police recently teamed up with Surrey RCMP for a shoplifting operation at Guildford Town Centre which resulted in 25 arrests.

The Delta Police Department (DPD) Patrol Support Team (PST) partnered with Surrey RCMP’s North Community Response Unit (CRU) teamed up recently to conduct a targeted operation aimed at reducing shoplifting at the Guildford Town Centre.

According to DPD, this joint one-day initiative resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals for various theft-related offences.

The operation, coordinated in collaboration with mall security and nine participating retail stores, including loss prevention specialists from the U.S., was highly effective in curbing criminal activity, say police.

Among the charges recommended were:

17 counts of Theft Under $5,000

Possession of Identity Documents

Failure to Comply with Probation

Police also executed three arrest warrants, leading to one individual being held in custody for breaching probation conditions. Officers seized three weapons, including knives and pepper spray, and recovered more than $6,500 in stolen merchandise.

“The success of this anti-shoplifting project demonstrates the value of the partnership between the Delta Police Department and our Surrey policing partners,” said A/Insp. James Sandberg, spokesperson for DPD. “Together, we increase our effectiveness to reduce crimes in our communities.”
