Are you ready for more of the white stuff?
The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes up to 10 cm of snowfall over high terrain heading into the weekend as a "strong pacific frontal system" moves onto the B.C. coast.
Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the region on Friday (Dec. 17) that calls for snowfall over higher terrain starting on Friday night and continuing into Saturday morning.
Places that will likely see snowfall include the City of Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, and Fraser Valley west including Abbotsford and Mission.
Temperatures will be cold enough to keep snow levels mainly between 200 and 300 metres. However, the heavy precipitation may allow the snow levels to lower briefly closer to sea level. This means places closer to the water may see roughly 2 cm of snowfall while places at higher terrains will see up to 10 cm.
Late Saturday morning warmer air is expected to allow the snow over higher terrain to change to rain.
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations.
