After an incident at Vancouver's City Hall, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) is recommending arson charges for one man.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22.
"A man allegedly used an incendiary device to light a fire outside an entrance to Vancouver City Hall," says the police department in a press release, noting the building was closed to the public at the time of the alleged arson attempt.
"A witness intervened to stop the fire from spreading," state the police.
VPD officers arrived shortly after and arrested a 36-year-old man nearby. Police note they do not believe the man is a Vancouver resident.
The suspect is in police custody, and criminal charges are being recommended. The investigation continues as a motive has not been determined.
Vancouver City Hall was the site of a different alleged arson attempt in early October when a minivan was lit on fire out front of the building. A 78-year-old man was charged in that incident; he was released on bail to spend time at the hospital for mental health care.
