One man is in hospital with serious injuries and West Vancouver police are looking for a suspect after a hit-and-run in Ambleside Wednesday morning.

According to police, the victim is a 62-year-old man who was walking south on the west sidewalk of 15th Street just north of Esquimalt Avenue around 10 a.m. when the driver of a white SUV hopped the curb and struck him to the ground from behind.

“[The driver] definitely would have been aware that they struck somebody, and they made no indication they were going to be stopping and they left the area immediately,” said Const. Kevin Goodmurphy, West Vancouver police spokesman. “All we have at this point is a white SUV that would have some sort of damage to the front end.”

Police were made aware of the incident when someone burst into the station’s reception area a block away to report what happened, Goodmurphy added.

Paramedics described the man’s injury as “limb-threatening.”

Police have closed down the street and the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service has taken over the investigation.

Now investigators are hoping any witnesses or anyone who may have footage of the suspect SUV will come forward. That could include anyone who was driving in the area at the time of the crash.

Anyone with information that can help the case is asked to call 604-925-7300.
