A 36-year-old man was tasered and several police officers sustained minor injuries during what police described as a "disturbance" at a residence in Burnaby’s Edmonds neighbourhood Monday evening.

Officers were called to a house in the 7400 block of Humphries Avenue near 17th Avenue at 6:15 p.m., according to an emailed Burnaby RCMP statement.

Police were told a man was trying to break into the residence, the statement said.

At the scene officers located a 36-year-old man "yelling incoherently," according to police.

The man became "assaultive" toward the officers, who eventually deployed a conducted energy weapon, police said.

"With the assistance of multiple officers, the suspect was taken into custody and transported to the hospital," stated the email.

One injured officer was also taken to hospital, according to police.

Images taken of the incident show a large emergency response with multiple ambulances as well as Burnaby RCMP, New Westminster Police and Metro Vancouver Transit Police vehicles at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, according to Burnaby RCMP.
