An impromptu memorial in downtown Vancouver has been created in honour of British singer-songwriter Liam Payne.
Payne, who rose to prominence as a member of the popular boyband One Direction, died earlier this month in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after falling from a hotel balcony.
Fans around the world have set up memorials to honour the singer, who was just 31 when he died.
In Vancouver, a memorial has been put up around a tree on the northwest side of the Vancouver Art Gallery. It includes personal messages to Payne, photos, and flowers.
"You brought me a sense of community during a time I didn't fit in," reads one letter. "You gave me friends, lasting friendships even, from all over the world."
"I'm sorry you had to leave so soon, and I hope you know how much everyone loves you," reads another handwritten note.
Some fans have posted on social media that they plan to hold a gathering at the memorial tree at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23.
