A local fabrication company has offered to spruce up the area near the Wreck of the English Bay Barge with some nautical-themed planters – free of charge.
The design of said planters was shared by Green Theory Design on Instagram earlier this week calling on the Vancouver Park Board for their approval.
“We’d love to have it down by #bargechillingbeach @vanparkboard it’s your call! Should we build a couple for you? Our treat:),” the post states.
Joel Franske, a managing partner at Green Theory, lives not far from the beached barge and found the inspiration to make the barge-themed planter after hearing the Barge Chilling Beach sign was vandalized last month.
"I just sort of thought it could be a bit of a lasting memory there if anybody ever goes to move it,” Franske said in a recent interview with Vancouver Is Awesome.
Franske added the company is willing to make the planters so long as they have the approval from the Park Board but as of this writing Franske has not heard from them.
Even if they haven’t heard back from the Park Board yet, the response to the idea alone has been encouraging with the Instagram page receiving several supportive messages in just a day.
These barge planters wouldn’t be the first pieces from Green Theory to adorn the city as Franske explained the company supplies planters to local restaurant chains, “almost every penthouse,” and many more will be installed in The Post development on West Georgia Street.
