You can rent an apartment not much bigger than a parking space for $975 a month in Vancouver

Tall people may want to rule this one out

One of the smallest (and potentially the smallest) apartments is currently on the rental market in Vancouver right now.

The tiny unit is approximately 175 square feet, according to its ad on Facebook Marketplace; an average parking space is about 161 square feet. Like its size, the studio apartment's rent is small - relatively speaking given Vancouver's rental market - at just $975 per month.

The mini home is one of the very few places in Vancouver where a person could live alone for under $1,000 in monthly rent.

The tiny space does have a kitchen space and washroom, though they're more compact than in other homes. For example, photos show the kitchen appliances are all in one spot, with a two-burner stove top, sink, and fridge all together.

"This private suite has vinyl wood grain type look floors, painted galley kitchen with all plate ware, pots, and pans provided, as are a microwave/toaster oven and compact stove/fridge," states the ad.

The sleeping area also is limited, with its custom-built captain's bed which is only about 173 cm long, so anyone taller than 5'8" won't fit well on the bed.

The washroom is a simple three-piece setup with a shower.

While the micro-unit may be too small for some, the people renting the space say in the ad there's been a lot of response so far.

Dwelling unit sizes in Vancouver can be permitted as low as 320 square feet, according to city documents.
