A huge new seniors residence and community care facility is being proposed along a block of Granville Street.
Located at 6151-6261 Granville Street, the developers are looking to build a six-storey complex with 226 units dedicated to seniors. The project would be run as a private-pay senior's community care facility according to the proposal submitted to the city by Intracorp and Amica.
Amica runs other similar complexes across Canada.
The proposal shows a variety of levels of care, as well as health care areas and amenities like a games rum and a bistro. This would allow seniors to transition to different levels of care within the same facility, the developer explains. They expect residents to be 80+ and either living alone or as a couple.
The proponents note they see a lack of supply in seniors housing in Vancouver right now that'll only increase over time. The location works for them as Kerrisdale and the westside of Vancouver are already popular with older residences of Vancouver.
Amica already operates eight seniors facilities in B.C. with two more coming online next year. In Vancouver they run the Amica Arbutus Manor. They also have locations in Alberta and Ontario.
The city is looking for feedback on the rezoning application now.
