Update: Multiple people stabbed in downtown Vancouver, suspect dead

"A number of people have been stabbed, and the suspect has been shot by police."

One person is dead after being shot by police in a violent incident in downtown Vancouver.

The incident occurred around 11:34 a.m., Dec. 4, at the Original Joe's and 7-Eleven at the intersection of Robson and Hamilton streets.

"[A] caller reported a man had stolen alcohol and was armed with a knife inside the restaurant," states the VPD in a press release.

Police officers responded to the call and found the suspect had crossed Hamilton and gone into the 7-Eleven.

"The suspect was shot by police and taken into custody," states the VPD.

The suspect has since died at a local hospital.

Two other people were stabbed during the incident. Both were taken to hospital; police do not believe their injuries are life-threatening.

At the time of publishing the 7-Eleven and area around it is still blocked off, with investigators inside the store.

Lucas Guariglia says he was working in the area when he heard several shots followed by sirens. 

He tells V.I.A. he saw two people being carried out of the convenience store on stretchers.
