A weather alert has been issued for Metro Vancouver as a dense cloud of fog blankets the region.
Environment Canada states that a ridge of high pressure has trapped moist air near the surface creating near-zero visibility in the thick fog on Wednesday (Nov. 16).
Drivers are reminded to slow down and watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop due to hazardous travel conditions.
The fog is expected to dissipate later Wednesday afternoon.
On Thursday, temperatures are expected to drop down below the freezing mark overnight, while Friday is also expected to see a chilly overnight low of -1 C.
There is also another opportunity for early snowfall on the weekend.
Metro Vancouver weather forecast
In a recent update, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) called for a 75 per cent chance that La Niña will be present this winter and won't change to a "neutral" weather pattern until about February.
Typically, La Niña's impact on southern B.C. doesn't start to show until the late fall or early winter. But it does tend to produce cooler than normal conditions and snowier conditions over the mountains.
Environment Canada will release its official winter forecast on Dec. 1.
