New park opens in Vancouver, features a 'bird slide'

It's called Promontory Park, for now

After more than three years after a design was first proposed construction has wrapped up and Promontory Park has finally opened.

The newest park in Vancouver is located on a triangle of land at the intersection of Marine Way with Sawmill Crescent. The small addition to the city's parkland is about 0.3 of a hectare, or just under 33,000 square feet.

"(This park) will help serve this rapidly growing neighbourhood and form a vital green space connection from the Champlain Heights community to the riverfront," states the Vancouver parks board on social media.

While the park is currently called Promontory Park, its long-term official name will be determined at a later date.

Among its features is a play area with a bird slide (as in, it's a slide that looks like a giant Northern Flicker), a play area, and paths around the grassy area.

Its position near the Fraser River and Boundary Road makes it one of the most southerly and easterly parks in the city.
