Just a couple of weeks after one of Vancouver's radio stations relaunched under a new brand, another new station will start broadcasting.
This time, it's Wave 98.3 FM, calling itself "Vancouver’s Coolest Vibe" in promotional material; it'll take to the airwaves July 18 starting at 8:30 a.m.
"WAVE 98.3 features a mix of smooth tunes, funky instrumentals, classic Motown and R&B as well as hits from today’s biggest stars like Michael Bublé, Adele
and The Weeknd," states the new station in a press release.
Personalities have been announced as well; Tara Jean Stevens will take mornings, Vickie Van Dyke is on middays and Danny Mags will have the afternoon commute. Evenings will be the purview of Gary James, from 6 p.m. to midnight. Shows from 'Downtown' Julie Brown and Dave Koz will round out Saturdays and Sundays.
The Wave is being launched by Durham Radio, an Oshawa-based broadcasting group with six stations across southern Ontario, including 94.7 the Wave based out of Hamilton. The sale of 98.3 FM was approved last year.
Previously, 98.3 FM was the home of CIRH-FM Roundhouse Radio, an independent station that shuttered in 2018. Since then, the frequency has been essentially unoccupied.
