North Vancouver RCMP are seeking witnesses to a “suspicious” incident, where a 10-year-old boy was offered candy by a passenger in a white truck.
At around 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, the child was walking to a friend’s house when a white truck was driving by, near the intersection of West 13th Street and Mahon Avenue, police said.
“The passenger of the truck asked the boy if he wanted candy,” according to a statement from North Vancouver RCMP. “The boy became suspicious of the male and ran the opposite direction toward a nearby library.”
The boy later explained the incident to his parents, who reported it to police.
There was no physical contact during the incident, and nothing further was said, RCMP added.
The truck is described as white in colour, “not new or old,” and possibly a two door. The driver is described as white with black facial hair and black, messy hair.
“At this time, we have no evidence of a criminal offence,” said Const. Mansoor Sahak of North Vancouver RCMP. “We are treating this as a suspicious incident, and are asking anyone who has information regarding this investigation to contact us.”
Anyone who was parked in the area – on West 13th Street between Jones and Chesterfield avenues, or Mahon Avenue between West 13th and West 14th streets – who may have witnessed the incident, or has video surveillance or dash-cam footage, is asked to contact police.
Potential witnesses should quote file number 23-25846.
“Police are also asking that the individual involved come forward to provide their account of the interaction,” Sahak said.
