One dead after motorcycle strikes tree in Vancouver

The Independent Investigations Office, which looks into police incidents, is investigating the case

Police are asking for witnesses to a crash involving a motorcyclist on Nov.6, 2024. The rider died at the scene.

Police are seeking witnesses to an incident on Wednesday, Nov. 6, that led to the death of a 21-year-old man.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on Victoria Drive. According to a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) press release the motorcyclist didn't stop for police at East Hastings Street and Victoria and headed south on Victoria.

"It is alleged he collided into several vehicles along Victoria Drive before crashing into a tree near Victoria and 8th Avenue," stated police in the release.

The rider died at the scene.

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIOBC) has been alerted to the incident as the collision occurred after a police interaction.

"Initial steps will confirm the details of the attempted traffic stop and what role, if any, police actions or inaction played in the death," states the IIOBC in a press release.

The VPD are also investigating the incident and is asking for anyone with information or video footage of the area at the time to contact them directly at 604-717-3012.
