This online platform matches people who need groceries with those who can help

"We need help getting the word out to vulnerable populations - seniors who may not be able to access the supplies they need, and individuals who do not have reliable income in these uncertain times."

"If you're feeling helpless, help someone."

Launched by Vancouver locals Josiane Meadows and Elyse Sanders, Share the Goods is an online platform that matches people who need groceries with people who are able to help buy them. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of people may be not be able to shop for necessities or afford them.

"We need help getting the word out to vulnerable populations - seniors who may not be able to access the supplies they need, and individuals who do not have reliable income in these uncertain times," Meadows and Sanders in an email.

"We’re aiming to help those worried about being able to afford the goods they'll need in the coming weeks/months."

Once on the site, people may select "I need a little help" or "I want to help." If they select the former, they'll fill out a few questions and someone will be in touch in to ask what they need and to coordinate a delivery. Helpers are also asked to answer a few questions and advised to reach out to their matches within a day or two.

To practice social distancing, however, organizers encourage volunteers to place an online order from a store on behalf of their match. From there, the items may be delivered to their desired location or picked up in-store. If this isn't an option, volunteers are advised to drop off deliveries on their match’s doorstep.
