As the Palestine-Israel conflict wages on, there will be a mass march and rally in Vancouver on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023.

A pair of pro-Palestine rallies have been organized in Vancouver for Thursday and Saturday.

Several groups have organized the demonstrations to protest the current conditions and violence in Gaza, including the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network Vancouver, the Palestinian Youth Movement, and the Canada Palestine Association.

Vancouver protests arranged amid Palestine-Israel conflict

In a Facebook post, the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network Vancouver calls on its supporters to "stop the genocide and stand with Gaza" by attending the events, including one that is expected to take to the streets and affect traffic.

The first of the two planned pro-Palestine rallies is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. at Vancouver City Hall, where attendees are asked to "call out" Mayor Ken Sim and other elected officials for supporting Israel.

The second rally, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21, will kick off at the Vancouver Art Gallery at 3 p.m. Organizers have planned a "mass march" through the city's downtown core.

Previously, the group held demonstrations on Oct. 13 and on Oct. 8 in the city.

In a previous interview, VPD Sgt. Steve Addison told V.I.A. that "many of the residents here in Vancouver are also concerned for their [own] safety," adding that the department has increased police patrol near places of worship and community centres. It will also continue to deploy officers to all gatherings and demonstrations to ensure that they remain peaceful.
