The Pattullo Bridge is closed in both directions as police investigate a five-vehicle collision that included a fatality.

A woman has died in a five-car collision that has closed the Pattullo Bridge for over 10 hours.

The Surrey Police Service is reporting that a five-vehicle collision on the east end of the Patullo Bridge has resulted in one fatality. The bridge is closed in both directions while police investigate the collision.

Just before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, the Surrey Police Service was advised by BC Emergency Health Services of a collision involving five vehicles, including one smaller sized bus, on the Patullo Bridge.

“Surrey Fire Service and BC EHS administered lifesaving measures to one adult female driver, but she passed away on scene,” said a SPS news release. “There are injuries to other drivers and passengers involved in the collision, but at this early stage the extent of the injuries is unknown.”

Both the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operational Support Unit Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) have been called in to assist. The investigation is in its early stages and the cause of the collision is unknown.

According to a post on social media, members of the New Westminster Police Department are also assisting the Surrey Police Service. At 10:15 a.m., the NWPD stated the bridge closure is expected to last several hours.

The Surrey Police Service noted road closures and traffic diversions will last throughout the day as officers conduct their investigation.

TransLink has alerted transit users to expect delays due to traffic in the areas around Scott Road, Columbia and New Westminster stations.

Around 7 p.m., Drive BC (the official account of the Ministry of Transportation) announced the bridge had reopened to traffic in both directions.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information, including dashcam footage, is asked to call Surrey Police Service at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2025-7520 (SP).
