Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers has selected a possible person of interest in a series of arsons as its "crime of the week."

"Crime of the week" is a weekly fan out service based on information provided by police investigators who need public assistance in making our communities safer by identifying individuals involved in committing crimes.

Richmond RCMP is actively investigating a series of 15 suspicious fires, 14 of which have taken between Jan. 4 and April 18.

According to an RCMP release, the first fire is believed to have taken place on July 13, 2019. After that, they saw there was then a six-month gap at which point the remaining 13 fires occurred.

In each of these incidents, either hedges or garbage bins were deliberately set on fire. Fortunately, police say there have been no injuries and minimal property damage. However, Richmond RCMP is concerned for the public’s safety as there is always a risk for serious injury or significant property damage as a result of these deliberate fires.

The incidents have occurred in the geographical area spanning west to east from McCallan Road to St. Albans Road and north to south from Bennett Road to Afton Drive. All of the fires have taken place between 11:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

Despite numerous investigative measures taken by police the identity of the individual responsible remains unknown.

The suspect has been described as a Caucasian male with blonde hair and fair skin, between 17 and 19 years of age. He's described as approximately 5’6" and 160 pounds. He has been observed wearing: A grey, white and light blue zip-up hoodie with horizontal strips along the chest, baggy pants and carrying a backpack with a silver canister.

A possible suspect was observed in the area of one of the fires and Richmond RCMP is issuing a composite drawing in the hopes of identifying this male.
