Photos: Oh deer! Two sightings in Richmond last week

One deer was seen on Alexandra Road last week.

Spotted deer seem to have been exploring Richmond last week.

Richmond resident Diane Styles came face-to-face with a deer on Alexandra Road shortly after 5 p.m. on Thursday.

"No idea where it came from as I have lived in Richmond all my life and never seen a deer," said Styles in an email to the Richmond News.

Another resident also came across a deer and two animal control officers along Richmond's Shell Road Trail on Sunday afternoon.

Anabelle Wee was biking along the trail when she came across the officers who were trying to "coax a deer back into the forested area" and away from Alderbridge Way and Shell Road.

It is unclear if both sightings were of the same deer.

City spokesperson Clay Adams previously told the News deer are "certainly not a regular part of Richmond's ecosystem," and can be spotted occasionally in the city.

"It is not clear where they come from, how they got here, or where they go," he said.

But, he added, while they're welcome as "another natural attraction," the city encourages people to keep their distance.
