Winning love by daylight, no doubt! Sailor Moon and crew met atop a downtown Vancouver parkade last weekend.
The epic gathering on Sunday, May 29 was captured from afar by filmmaker Dominic Dobrzensky who snapped a photo of the heroes and posted it to Reddit much to the delight of commenters and the platoon themselves.
"I was the Sailor Jupiter!! I love that we found this post," wrote one user. Other commenters called the cosplay "inspired" and "amazing."
“After being shut in for two years it’s fun to remember what it’s like to go out with friends,” Dobrzensky says about the draw of the photo.
Shoot photographer Laura Winship agrees, saying she’s wanted to plan a Sailor Moon cosplay image since her first ever project nearly seven years ago—also Sailor Moon themed. Alas, not even in the name of the moon can the Sailor Scouts punish a pandemic.
“I’ve wanted to do a group shoot for a while but COVID made it hard. Luckily we got the group together!” she says.
Inspired by the action-packed antics of Sailor Moon and her guardians, Winship picked the parkade roof for the photo and gathered the cosplayers through word of mouth and Facebook.
“I try to make things a little different each time—when I think of Sailor Moon I think of them jumping off buildings and fighting bad guys. It’s a pretty city focused show,” she says.
Well, good to know we have this group of nine protecting us from the forces of evil—this powerful bunch never runs from a real fight!
