This past weekend the Tron: Ares production took over the Cambie Street Bridge as it became the setting for part of the movie.
Tron: Ares, the third film in the Tron saga that started in 1982, is currently in production in Vancouver. Over the last few weeks parts of the production have been spotted around the city, but likely the most impactful part of the production (at least, for drivers) took place Thursday and Friday night (and into the early mornings) as Cambie Bridge was shut down from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. twice.
The bridge shoot appears to feature two "light cycles," along with at least one "Metropolitan Police" car. The customized motorcycles and riders' suits were covered in bright red lights, giving them a bright glow as they drove past crews and onlookers each night.
Tron: Ares is the third film in the Tron universe. The first film, released in 1982, was considered groundbreaking for its use of special effects. The sequel, Tron: Legacy, took nearly 30 years to reach the silver screen. It was also shot in Vancouver and used Cambie Bridge for at least one scene involving a motorcycle.
Jared Leto stars in the film as the title character, Ares. Last weekend, Leto was spotted in the Ares suit filming a scene at the Bentall 5 building in Downtown Vancouver.
Leto's co-stars include Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan, and Gillian Anderson.
The film is expected to be released in 2025.
