A police incident has shut down an area around Canada Place in downtown Vancouver Thursday afternoon.
Video from the scene shows police near the waterfront outside the Vancouver attraction. In a brief statement to Vancouver Is Awesome the Vancouver Police Department says they're dealing with someone having a mental health crisis.
"There's no public safety risk," says Cnst. Tania Visintin in an email.
Police tape blocks off access to the roads leading to the iconic building. In footage police are not actively moving the crowd away from the area. There's no indication how long the situation will last.
Anyone needing to be in the area or use services, like shuttle buses to Capilano Suspension Bridge, are being asked to find alternate plans.
Due to a police incident, we are unable to pickup at Canada Place for the remainder of the day. Please head to @HyattVancouver or @BlueHorizonVan for our shuttle pickups. Thank you for your patience. #CapBridge #Vancouver #Vancity #yvr
