With much of the world's sports media pointing cameras at Qatar, there's been a lot of attention given to Canada's second trip to the World Cup.
The Canadian Men's national team have gained popularity in their home country as they've played an exciting and (mostly) winning style of soccer over the last year. And with plenty of success on the Women's side and Canada set to co-host the next World Cup, soccer is arguably the most popular it has ever been here.
But Vancouver Is Awesome readers aren't interested in any sort of overwhelming sense. In a poll that ran during the opening week of the World Cup, it seems the majority of readers aren't paying attention to the tournament at all.
Almost 58 per cent of respondents aren't planning to watch any part of the World Cup, often called the most popular sporting event in the world. And while Canada is making its first appearance since 1986, just over a quarter say they'll watch games, with the majority of those saying they'll watch as many games as possible.
We polled 763 Vancouver Is Awesome readers and asked the question: Are you watching any of the World Cup?
The poll ran from 11/20/2022 to 11/27/2022. Of the 763 votes, we can determine that 412 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:
