Vancouverite's positive opinions of the USA have decreased over the last 10 years.

It seems the last decade has not been a positive one when it comes to Vancouverites' opinions of the U.S.

Since 2015, it seems the vast majority of locals feel less positive about America.

In a V.I.A. poll that ran through the end of January and early February 2025 (around the same time as President Donald Trump's inauguration, tariff announcements, and comments on annexing Canada as a state), more than 87 per cent of Vancouverites' opinions of the U.S.A. were less favourable than they were in 2015.

Of the remaining poll participants, only four per cent said they had a more positive view of the U.S.

Generally, local opinion matched up with the total from all V.I.A. readers, though the general readership had a slightly more positive opinion of the U.S.A. over the last decade, with only 84 per cent saying their opinions were less favourable and more than five percent saying it was more favourable.

A decade ago, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and American President Barack Obama had a relatively smooth international relationship, which was reflected by continued cooperation between the two countries.

The pair placed friendly bets over hockey games, while the two nations launched a shared regulatory body to increase trade efficiency.

Recently relations have become strained due to Trump's tariff announcements, among other issues.

Vancouver Is Awesome polled 1785 readers and asked the question: Over the past decade is your opinion of the USA:

The poll ran from 1/23/2025 to 2/8/2025. Of the 1785 votes, we can determine that 659 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:
