It's been one year since Hamas attacked Israel, inciting an escalation in violence in the Middle East that continues today.
To mark the anniversary a large pro-Palestine protest has been planned for downtown Vancouver on Monday, Oct. 7. Organizers have noted it's also in solidarity with Lebanon, which has been drawn into the conflict as well.
According to posts online, the protest will start at 4 p.m. at the Vancouver Art Gallery with booths, speakers and displays about Palestine.
That will be followed by a rally at 7 p.m. Posters indicate that, at that time, participants will "mobilize to act."
While a specific route has not been announced, posts suggest protesters will take to the streets.
"We will see you in the streets," reads one post from the Palestinian Priner Solidarity Network.
The Vancouver Police Department is aware of the plans and will be on the scene.
"There may be traffic disruptions. Members of our Public Safety Unit, which is trained in crowd control, will be deployed to manage any disruptions that occur. If there are significant disruptions we will update via social media," Sgt. Steve Addison tells V.I.A.
Previously the VPD warned of disorder in downtown Vancouver on the anniversary of the attack. Uniformed school liaison officers will also be positioned at “some faith-based schools” during pickup and drop-off times on Monday.
Other rallies are planned across B.C. around the same time, and the day will see similar protests globally.
