It was a large blue recycling bin that bobbed in the waters near Kitsilano Point Sunday that had multiple people calling the Canadian Coast Guard.

What was found inside was likely no one's guess – human remains.

Vancouver police accompanied coast guard crews shortly after 11 a.m. to examine remains discovered inside of the bin.

Once confirmed the remains to be of a human origin, police put out a public call to residents and property managers in Vancouver.

“Check [your] recycling and garbage rooms to see if any large, blue, wheeled recycling containers are missing,” asked Cst. Tania Visintin, on behalf of the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

Additionally, investigators are asking anyone who observed a blue recycling bin floating in the water to call the VPD major crime section at 604-717-2500.
