A selection of used, high-end shoes on sale in a Richmond thrift store for almost $400 a pair is causing quite a stir on social media.
The shoes - Balmain sneakers, Balenciaga Triple S sneakers and Manolo Blahnik ladies shoes – are all up for grabs at Richmond’s Value Village on Granville Avenue for just $399.99.
It’s not quite what one would expect to find in a so-called second-hand store and will be raising eyebrows for those among us who hunt for flyers and coupons to get 20 per cent off a no-name brand of chips.
And for the many people out there scratching their collective heads, Balmain is a luxury French fashion house, Manolo Blahnik is a renowned Spanish fashion designer, while Balenciaga is also Spanish but got into hot water a year ago when it was accused of sexualizing children in its advertising.
The reaction to a post on Reddit, with regard to the shoes, ranged from disgust to dismay to indignation for the aforementioned “cheap” types who shop with flyers.
One commentor even lauded Blahnik as being a pioneer in the shoe industry, while others lambasted Value Village’s actual percentage of contribution to the charities it supports.
