Sunday, June 25, 2023 marks the 25th anniversary of the Vancouver Half Marathon.
The popular run will bring together over 4,500 participants from 28 countries who will take to the streets starting at UBC and follow a route along the waterfront ending in Kitsilano.
Race routes will impact traffic and cause road closures on Sunday in Vancouver, with some starting as early as 4 a.m. and some lasting until between 11 a.m. and noon.
2023 Vancouver Half Marathon road closures
- UBC's Agronomy Boulevard (NW Marine to Lower Mall): Full closure from 4 a.m. to noon
- NW Marine Drive (University Boulevard to Stadium): Full closure from 4 to 11:15 a.m.
- Marine Drive (Stadium Road to Wesbrook Mall): Full closure from 7 to 11 a.m.
- Marine Drive NB (Wesbrook Mall to Kullahun Drive): Closure from 7 to 9 a.m. but the shoulder lane will be open.
- Marine Drive SB (Wesbrook Mall to Kullahun Drive): Full closure from 7 to 10:15 a.m.
- NW Marine Drive (University Boulevard to East Mall): Full closure from 7 to 9:30 a.m.
- NW Marine Drive (Chancellor to 4th Ave): Full closure from 7 to 10 a.m.
- W 4 Ave (NW Marine to Alma): Limited road access from 7 to 10:30 a.m. WB Lanes will be closed.
- Alma (W 4 Ave to Point Grey Road): Full closure from 7 to 10:30 a.m.
- Point Grey Rd (Alma to Macdonald): Full closure from 7 to 10:30 a.m.
- Cornwall Ave (MacDonald to Arbutus): Partial closure from 7 to 11 a.m. WB Lanes will be closed/open.
- Arbutus (McNicoll to Cornwall): Full closure from 7 to 11 a.m.
- McNicoll (Maple to Arbutus): Full closure from 7 to 11 a.m.
- Maple (Ogden to McNicoll): Full closure from 7 to 11 a.m.
- Ogden (Chestnut to Maple): Full closure from 7 to 11 a.m.
- Chestnut (Whyte to Ogden): Full closure from 7 to 11 a.m.
Transit detours
Due to road closures for the Half Marathon, bus routes 2 (MacDonald to Downtown), R4 (UBC to Joyce), 4 UBC, 42 (Spanish Banks to Alma), 49 Metrotown, 68 (Wesbrook Mall to UBC), and 84 UBC will be temporarily rerouted from 6:00 a.m. until noon on Sunday. Signage will be in place at affected bus stops to direct commuters to alternate stops.
