Bundle up, because parts of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley might see this year's first sprinklings of snow today.
Temperatures are expected to drop Monday as Arctic air “arrive[s] over the south coast as a ridge of high pressure builds," according to a snowfall warning from Environment Canada.
The arctic air “will give potential to produce accumulating snow for neighbourhoods and roadways above 200 metres,” the weather agency added.
This includes Vancouver's North Shore and the Tri-Cities.
Up to 10 centimetres expected
There, wet snow could develop as early as Monday afternoon, with as much as 10 centimetres of snow predicted for the North Shore and parts of Coquitlam and Maple Ridge.Areas closer to sea level could see up to two centimetres.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways, and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, warns Environment Canada.
By Tuesday morning, the weather system is expected to move out of the region.
