Special weather statement issued as snow forecast for Vancouver

Prepare for some snow Monday and Tuesday morning, especially the higher you are.

Heavy rain is expected for Vancouver starting today.

It's another wet week for Vancouver, and maybe a second visit from snow.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver as up to 2 cm of snow may fall by Monday morning.

"A cold and unstable airmass over the coast may bring some wintery conditions to the Lower Mainland. Showery weather tonight combined with snow levels hovering near 300 metres will mean that some areas, particularly higher elevations, could see small accumulations of snow overnight or early Monday morning," states Environment Canada.

That'll be followed by another system that could bring another 5 cm overnight Monday and into Tuesday morning. It's expected snow will be more widespread on Dec. 14, but things will ease up throughout the day.

Environment Canada is predicting showers for most of the rest week with temperatures just above freezing. Thursday is likely to be the warmest and clearest day, with a high of 5 C and a mix of sun and cloud.

Thursday evening may see more of the white stuff land, as it'll drop to 0 C with a 60 per cent chance of flurries or showers. Friday will bring more of the same, with a chance of rain or snow throughout the day.
