Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is once again notifying a school community about a potential COVID-19 exposure at an elementary school.

Staff and students at Sir Matthew Begbie Elementary School may have been exposed to the virus over seven days, split over two periods: Nov. 16-19 and Nov 22-24.

VCH issues notifications when there is an increased risk of ongoing transmission, but notes Public Health will have already contacted those who they believe are at the highest risk.

"Postings will be listed here after the initial investigation is complete, and only after affected people have been notified directly," they explain.

They add that parents shouldn't take their students out of class if they haven't been contacted, but instead closely monitor their symptoms.

"Children and youth continue to be at low risk for serious outcomes from COVID-19, but research has shown missing school impacts mental health, social connection and learning outcomes. Continue to do a daily Health Check, and seek testing if symptomatic," VCH says on its website.

Vaccinations for elementary school-age children have begun, with kids as young as five years old now eligible for doses from Pfizer.
