A Metro Vancouver resident had millions of reasons to be thankful this past weekend.
Ronald Cacacho from Surrey discovered that he'd won the $2 million top prize from the BC/49 draw on Sept. 30.
“Once I found out I won I had trouble sleeping because I kept thinking I was dreaming,” said Cacacho of the winning ticket, which he purchased from the Esso on King George Boulevard in Surrey.
He was at a mall when he found out he matched six out of six numbers after checking the ticket on a self-checker.
"Of course, I had to tell my wife and then my kids," he recalls. "They didn't' believe me at first."
Cacacho celebrated his win with his family during their Thanksgiving celebration and plans to use part of his winnings to start a small businesses in the Philippines, where he is originally from. He also plans to put the money towards paying off his mortgage and gifting some to his kids.
“I’m just so happy I don’t exactly know how to explain it… I’m still in disbelief. I think just having the financial freedom of not worrying about money is a dream come true,” the Surrey resident says.
