Vancouver police have arrested two teenagers after a father and son were attacked this weekend.
The attack occurred Saturday (May 14) around 9 p.m. near the Nanaimo SkyTrain station. A father and son were walking after the Whitecaps game when they were confronted by a group of teens, according to the Vancouver Police Department (VPD). The confrontation escalated and one of the teens used bear spray on the father and son.
The attackers then allegedly made racist comments toward the family.
"We believe the suspects and victims were familiar with each other," says Sgt. Steve Addison in an email to Vancouver Is Awesome.
Police were able to locate the teens nearby; they were already known to police. Two of the group were then arrested, a 13-year-old and a 17-year-old. Both were taken to jail. Police are considering a variety of charges.
"The 13-year-old was arrested for assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and breach of court conditions," Addison says in the email. "The 17-year-old was also arrested and taken to jail. The teens were in possession of crack cocaine."
Both have been released as police investigate further.
