Temporary closure becomes permanent for popular Vancouver restaurant damaged in fire

The inside of the restaurant has been stripped down to the fixtures.

A fire in Mount Pleasant last summer appears to have spelled the end for Nirvana Restaurant.

The fire at 2313 Main St occurred on July 31, 2022, when oil on a stove caught fire around the lunch hour. The fire suppression system kicked in, but the fire was still significant enough to cause serious damage to the restaurant.

At the time, Nirvana announced it would close temporarily. That was the last post on the restaurant's Instagram account.

It appears the closure isn't temporary, though. The restaurant's website has been shut down, there have been no further updates on social media, and the restaurant is listed as permanently closed on Google. Beyond that, the city's business license for Nirvana notes it has "gone out of business."

Additionally, the restaurant location appears to have been stripped down to the fixtures.

As the Instagram account hasn't been updated, many fans of the restaurant are still leaving comments hoping it'll reopen.

"Will you be coming back? Miss your food and friendly faces," commented one person in April.
