Traffic advisory: Delays in busy Vancouver area due to new project

Prepare for ongoing work in the area.

Drivers should prepare for delays and a road closure in Vancouver due to some infrastructure work that commenced this week.

Work on the False Creek Neighbourhood Energy Utility (NEU) Pipeline Extension commenced on Wednesday, Sept. 25, and remains ongoing.

The City of Vancouver has issued daily traffic alerts for the work, stating in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that it has closed one lane of East 2nd Avenue in both directions and implemented a full road closure on Lorne Street north of East Second Avenue (see slide two).

Work on the project runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drivers should also look for "no parking" signs in the area.

The utility services the former Olympic Village, Southeast False Creek community. The NEU is expanding to serve parts of Mount Pleasant, False Creek Flats, and Northeast False Creek.

According to the city, the NEU "reduces greenhouse gas emissions by over 60 per cent compared to conventional energy sources."
