Two fires set residential buildings ablaze overnight.

Vancouver firefighters received a call for a second-alarm residential fire near Nanaimo Street and 27th Avenue at 8:55 p.m. Monday night (Dec. 12). Later, crews received another call for a fire in the West End at 3 a.m.

Three people were injured at the late night fire at 4320 Nanaimo St, sending one person to hospital in critical condition. "Two others [were] classified as smoke inhalation," Assistant Chief Brain Bertuzzi tells Vancouver Is Awesome

The second fire happened in a retirement home at 1115 Nelson St where the fire was contained to a unit on the 11th floor. "Firefighters removed one occupant who has been transported to hospital," shares Fire Chief Karen Fry on Twitter, adding that over 44 firefighters were on scene.

"Both fires are under investigation at this time with the fire investigation office," says Bertuzzi.
